In chronological order:
From the silents with Elmo Lincoln, Gene Pollar, P. Dempsey Tabler, James Pierce and Frank Merrill -
The "other" Tarzan films of the 1930s with Buster Crabbe, Herman Brix and Glenn Morris -
Through the 12 Johnny Weissmuller films of the '30s and '40s -
Into the 1950s with Lex Barker and Gordon Scott and Denny Miller -
Through the 1960s with Jock Mahoney, Mike Henry and Ron Ely (2 "films" were released from the TV series) -
The extremes of Miles O'Keefe (and Bo Derek) contrasted with Christopher Lambert's Greystoke in the early '80s. -
The '90s Joe Lara, Casper Van Dien and Disney's trilogy of animated films into the "aughts" -
And a new Tarzan movie is "in production" with Alexander SkarsgÄrd and director David Yates.
The best of the films doesn't come close to the excitement and pleasure of the good books. Cutting-edge FX could help the visual action but will there ever be a film that addresses the cultured-man vs. savage-beast conflict that is Tarzan?
