Of these, only 31 have reached the 2,500 milestone; only 16 have reached the 3,000 milestone; only 4 have reached the 4,000 milestone -- and only one, the incomparable Nolan Ryan surpassed 5,000, ending his career with an astounding 5,714 strikeouts.
Of the 31 players at the 2,500 + mark, only one -- C.C. Sabathia is active. At age 34, it is possible that he will reach the 3,000 mark.
