We all have them: the songs we range from slightly embarrassed to downright mortified to like, but we enjoy them nonetheless (usually privately). Many of these songs are from my Radio Disney days, as my fellow millennials may notice. Some are covers of originally annoying songs that I believe the cover artist actually redeemed. Some are from artists who have legitimately good songs (in my view) that are in my regular rotation. Heck, some of these are arguably even good songs themselves, but something about them (such as problematic lyrics, a tacky message, or the stigma of liking the artist) keeps me from fully embracing them as part of my "usual taste." Most of the songs here just require me to be in a certain mood, like a silly "just dance," "cheer up and turn off your brain," or even "yeah, the lyrics are misogynistic as hell, but it's shamefully catchy" frame of mind.
How many of these bops have graced your ears? (Warning: Rough waters ahead!)
