Sonic Precursor: Bands That Broke Up (And Became Better Bands)

Some legendary bands are like the Druids of Nigel Tufnel's revisionist history: "No one knows who they were, or what they were doing, but their legacy remains." They're far more famous for what various members achieved after they broke up than anything that happened while they were together. Some, like the Yardbirds and Buffalo Springfield, managed a few hits, but albums of Zep outtakes outsold Best Of The Yardbirds. And some, like Rocket From The Tombs, could barely draw flies during their brief careers but have become legends since.
