Kate and Laura Mulleavy founded Rodarte in Los Angeles, California, in 2005. Rodarte is known for its artistic mixture of high couture, California influences, and explorations into other art forms. Kate and Laura's design and costume work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum (2010), the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2011), and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2011), and within an upcoming exhibit at the National Museum for Women in the Arts in 2018. Rodarte is included in the permanent collections of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum at FIT in New York. They designed and created the ballet costumes for the Academy Award–winning film, Black Swan, directed by Darren Aronofsky. Kate and Laura wrote and directed their first feature film, Woodshock, an A24 film starring Kirsten Dunst and premiering in 2017.
