Ranker.com's Horror Sequels That Make Great Stand Alone Films

A general cinematic rule of thumb is that sequels aren't as good as the originals. Even when they don't surpass their predecessors, though, some sequels stand surprisingly well on their own two feet. Sometimes, these are flicks that are "sequels in name only," simply taking inspiration (at most) from their predecessors. Other times, they take the original's ideas in a whole new direction, or they tell a new story with preexisting elements.
