Pony Express National Historic Trail

The Pony Express was only in operation for 19 months, between April 1860 and October 1861, but during that time it provided a vital link for communications (10 days' time) between the rapidly growing cities on the western side of the Rockies, and the established cities in the east. Telegraph communication between San Francisco and New York was established on October 26, 1861, making the Pony Express obsolete. This is a list of sites along the 1,900-mile-long Pony Express National Historic Trail, from the route's start in Missouri to its end in California.
