Patty Duke(Anna Marie Duke Dec. 14, 1946-March 29, 2016) was an American actress whose long career was mainly on tv, guesting on many series, starring in a few(like "The Patty Duke Show" which garnered Emmy & Golden Globe noms), & also making many made-for-tv films. Her big-screen ventures include the cult classic "Valley of the Dolls", & "The Miracle Worker", the latter film-where she played a young Helen Keller-won her an Oscar & a Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer(she lost Best Supporting Actress-Motion Picture to Angela Lansbury in "The Manchurian Candidate"). She also won a Golden Globe for "Me, Natalie", & Emmy awards for "My Sweet Charlie", "Captains & the Kings", & the tv remake of "The Miracle Worker(this time playing Annie Sullivan). Received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 2004. Billed as Patty Duke Astin during her marriage(1972-1985) to John Astin of "The Addams Family", she is the mother of actors Sean Astin("The Lord of the Rings") & Mackenzie Astin.
