Papa Z's Essential Fantasy Fiction - Page 2

Like with my Science Fiction list, this Fantasy Fiction list is broad. A couple of notes to the reader: I will freely admit that I believe that "The Lord of the Rings" is currently the pinnacle of Fantasy Literature -- but I also have to give a certain pride of place to William Morris's classic "The Well at the World's End" which, in many respects pioneered the genre. Attention must also be paid to GK Chesterton. While most of his writing was not in the fantasy genre, the contributions he made and the influence he had on others (CS Lewis) gets him included in this list. Finally, I have chosen to list Anne McCaffrey's wonderful "Dragon" books in my Fantasy list; other readers may well have placed them in Science Fiction.
