One Hell of a Tune: Songs About Satan

I was shocked when evangelical preachers accused rock bands of embedding backward-masked Satanic messages in their songs. I thought "why don't they just put the in the lyrics?" The Prince of Darkness has been part of rock and roll since its prehistory. when Delta blues legend Robert Johnson allegedly sold his soul to the Satan in exchange for guitar virtuosity. British bands like the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin exploited the blues' reputation as "the Devil's music" to enhance their mystiques, and one could argue that most heavy metal is just Satanism for the squeamish.
