MovieWeb's 10 Movies Filmed in Actual Prisons

"Prison settings are adored by both directors and screenwriters, but even though movie creators enjoy throwing both the guilty and falsely accused characters behind bars, filming in such locations isn't always easy. Appropriate permits have to be acquired, institutional schedules have to be adhered to, and the dangers that come with interacting with actual inmates have to be factored in. Most studios and filmmakers thus prefer to either use CGI or construct temporary sets that resemble correctional facilities. However, there are times when these individuals were bold enough to film in actual prisons. Some made work easier for themselves by setting up base in defunct prisons while others had no qualms about having their cast interact with inmates." - movieweb.com
