Ralph Richardson (1902 - 1983), John Gielgud (1904 - 2000) and Laurence Olivier (1907 - 1989) were the pre-eminent actors of the twentieth century. Friends, colleagues, rivals: their careers on stage and screen intertwined throughout hundreds of characters and productions, and yet they only ever shared the screen together in one scene.
