Movies That Are Better Than the Books They're Based On--And Some That Are Worse!

I used to teach English in high school, so maybe I shouldn't suggest that some movies are just plain better than the books they're based on. Indeed, when I have humbly offered a few titles to other English teachers, I always met with rejection. Is it possible that NO movies could EVER outperform their sources? No way!
As "rebellious" as I'm willing to be, however, I can't come up with a long enough list to qualify for publication (minimum of ten), so I'm also putting in several titles of movies that are laughably WORSE than the books. I'll post the list as a hodgepodge--no clear division between "Better" and "Worse."
I've read and liked all the books in my list, and I've seen all the movies. I welcome constructive criticism and suggestions for additional titles.
