"The goal of the "100 Best" project was to get people talking about great books. We succeeded beyond our wildest imaginings -- more than 400,000 avid readers rushed online to cast votes for their favorite books.
The reader's poll for the best nonfiction published in the English language since 1900 opened on April 29, 1999 and closed on September 30, 1999 with a total of 194,829 votes cast. It appears to have been heavily affected by a strong turnout from fans of Ayn Rand and L. Ron Hubbard."
-- The Modern Library
Note: There are only 99 books listed because I couldn't find a link for "The Texan" by C.S. Barrios (#41), and if you should click on the link to the list that I have included, you will see that this book is not included there, either. Weird. As an aside, Modern Library's official website no longer shows the readers' picks for either fiction or nonfiction. Disappointing.
