Michael's Oscars 1964-2019 - Page 3

The Oscars get it wrong all the time. There a much superior films that don't even receive Best Picture nominations. The degree of difficulty of this list is that I've confined my picks to only the films that were nominated that year and they STILL got it wrong. Some are more egregious than others (Dances With Wolves/Goodfellas, Shakespeare In Love/Saving Private Ryan, Crash/Anything Else), some were toss ups (LA Confidential/Titanic, with LAC winning for me because of better acting and a better script, of the nominated 2005 films Brokeback Mountain/Munich, with Munich my pick because of timeliness of the message), and some were juggernauts that just weren't going to be beat that year (who's going to vote against Gandhi or Schindler's List?). So here's my list of the times they got it wrong within their own nominated films (The Year, What Won, What Was Nominated That Was Better).
