Lonely Planet's Top Experiences and Sights in Spain: Eastern Spain
- Page 4
With its own language and unique local customs, Catalonia feels distinct from the rest of Spain, and, beyond Barcelona, its four provinces unveil natural splendour. Pyrenean peaks loom above meadows and glittering lakes, plains with volcanic cones, rocky coves border sandy beaches and wind-blown capes give way to seaside paths and vineyards.
Valencia, the home of one of Spain's most famous exports, paella, is a marvellous stretch of coast offering fine beaches, truly wonderful eating, fabulous festivals and one of the nation's great cities.
Probably Spain's most underrated region, Aragón offers a lot, from the castles and Romanesque churches of the north to the Mudéjar architecture in the south, while dozens of picturesque medieval villages dot the serrated landscape. But above all, what sets Aragón apart is the majesty of the central Pyrenees.
These are the top experiences and sights in Catalonia, Valencian Community & Aragon, according to Lonely Planet.
