Largest U.S. Cities (1890)

These were the most populous U.S. cities in 1890, the year of the 11th U.S. Census. In this decade, Chicago overtakes Philadelphia as the second largest city, while both cities join New York in having over a million people each; this is also the last decade with Brooklyn as an independent city (the five boroughs would consolidate in 1898), and the first with Cleveland in the top 10.
