Largest U.S. Cities (1870)

These were the most populous U.S. cities in 1870, the year of the ninth U.S. Census. This was the first decade in which the northeastern states didn't hold a majority of the top 10 cities (only 4 out of 10), and also the first decade with a west coast city (San Francisco) in the top 10.
