Juneteenth: Slavery and Freedom in America - Page 2

As the holiday approaches I started to think about the legacy of slavery and Freedom in America. The books that follow deal with these issues and explore how that history shapes America even today. While I have included children's literature, I have also included both novels, nonfiction and biographies involving the subject. It is a complicated holiday; Is it a celebration of Freedom? Or a remembering of some of our country's darkest times? Read a handful of these books and decide for yourself.
