Comments on the list by Jan Troell
This is a selection from the hundreds of films that have inspired and affected me through the years. These films are for personal reasons especially close to my heart and play important roles in my life as a filmmaker.
For example, Snow White was the first film I saw three times at the cinema as a child, which was rather exceptional in those days. It lit some kind of spark in my interest for storytelling. And Hugo, which is such a loving tribute to the magical media of filmmaking, made me so proud and grateful to be a small part of that world.
The films in between have all been inspiring steps along the way and continue to be so every time I revisit them.
