Indigenous Cuisine of the Americas

Each November, the United States celebrates American Indian Month. It is a time to look back on the contributions to U.S. culture and world heritage from the original peoples of the Americas. Italian cuisine would be different without the introduction of the tomato. Irish history would have changed if there had been no potato introduced as the mainstay of early 19th century Irish life. The history of Vodka would change without the Swedish introduction of the potato in the production process. Indigenous America foods brought change to world cuisine and has been alleged to have been a vital source of Vitamin C to a growing European population in need of new sources.
