Identifying Fish in the Koi Pond - Page 2

There are multiple ways to identify the 100's of koi in the carp family: by color, pattern, or scale type. The first 33 pictures show color. Pictures 34 to 41 present common koi patterns. Pictures 42 to 49 show three fish scale types. Finally, there are the hybrids (butterfly & ghost koi). Now when you see a koi, you can say: that's a chagoi koi (all one tea color) or that's a ginrin (diamond-scaled) or you can mix & match adjectives depending on what you know. The great thing is there's even a kawarimono category for koi that don't quite fit in any category.... although I guess you can be like my Grandma and just say "isn't that a pretty fish?"
