The popular music of the late 20th century offered a few leitmotifs: love, heartbreak, and fear of nuclear obliteration. Even Loverboy quit squealing about "Hot Girls In Love" long enough to contemplate hot waves of flesh-melting radiation. The end of the Cold War made atomic anxiety sound about as dated as a wah-wah pedal, but until the Berlin War came down, we jammed out to many a pop apocalypse.
