I've seen a lot of lists of disturbing movies recently. Those films certainly have their place, but are more of a challenge or an experience than something I might enjoy. This list is my alternative to that.
For many horror/movie fans, myself included, there is a cathartic joy in a good gore movie. Sometimes, its an appreciation for the artistry of the effects, others just the fun of something splattery. These movies are fun and gory, not mean-spirited or grim. Just fun splatter. There may be moments that are less than good-natured, but overall they are a good time and you won't need a shower afterwards.
It can be hard to define a gore film. Friday the 13th is not it and Final Destination isn't quite there. Its more than that. There is more gore, more consistent, not just a single scene. Also, monsters or spraying blood don't really satisfy the requirement on their own, but body horror can. If you see the inside of something, like in The Thing, it can make the list.
