On the film front, the awards were fairly evenly spread, with Nomadland, Soul, and Borat Subsequent MovieFilm all winning two awards, each. Nomadland director Chloé Zhao won Best Director, making history as the first woman of Asian descent to take home that award, while the film itself won Best Motion – Picture Drama; Pixar's Soul took out the award for best animated film and score; and Borat Subsequent MovieFilm was Comedy's big winner, surprising no one with a Best Picture on that side of the ledger and Best Actor for Sacha Baron Cohen.
There were some big surprises, though, particularly in the movie acting categories, with Rosamund Pike picking up Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical of Comedy for her acidic work in I Care A Lot, Andra Day winning Best Actress – Drama (arguably the night's biggest shock), and Jodie Foster throwing a wrench in the awards-season works, winning Supporting Actress for The Mauritanian.
