The FILMSTARTS editorial staff discussed and decided: Just in time for the festival of love, here is the new, updated list of what we believe to be 80 of the best SF films of all time. We hope you enjoy browsing and debating.
Over the past two years, a lot has happened in the vibrant world of science fiction films, which is why there are also some new additions to the top list. We have also exchanged a few films - as we recently did in the list of the best horror films of all time - that do not quite meet our criteria for sci-fi. We also adjusted the order of the films and had a lot of discussions about all this.
What you definitely won't find in this list are superhero movies (we'll make them our own genre here) and end-times stories - at least not if there is no technical innovation in the plot.
