Films With the Most Accurate Portrayals of Childhood and Adolescence

Films that revolve around stories about passing from adolescence to adulthood. They are generally focused around moral growth and character change. In the film medium this is usually focused around a protagonist (or small group of protagonists) and their mental growth. It can either center around a singular event which helps propel this (such as a great shock, overcoming a harsh life event, learning an important life lesson, etc.) or can be a longer portrayal of multiple years of progress and growth. Boyhood is an example of the latter, following more than a decade of character growth. Most of such movies are films targeted at teenagers and young adults and usually based upon the special interests of the demographic. Topics may include peer pressure, first love, teenage rebellion or angst, and are often set in high schools or colleges. Specific age groups divide coming-of-age films; some focus on pre-teens, whilst the majority focus on the high school/teenage years
