Films Umbrellas Saw in July 2021 - Page 2

These are all the films I watched in July 2021, ordered by how much I liked them (favourite first). My viewing was particularly heavy on old classics this month, and most of them I found good or very good, even if a few strike me as overrated ('Earth' was a notable disappointment). Of the films I saw for the first time I was particularly impressed by 'World of Apu', 'The Marriage of Maria Braun', and 'Leave Her to Heaven'. I had previously assumed that Douglas Sirk invented the lurid technicolor romantic melodrama in the 1950s, but after seeing 'Leave Her to Heaven' I have to revise that opinion. There was nothing I really disliked this month, so I'll keep my poison pen capped. Something has to be last, but though I don't much care for Doris Day, even 'The Pajama Game' is far from terrible.
