Max Von Sydow (born Carl Adolph von Sydow on April 10,1929) is a Swedish actor who first came to prominence as a frequent player in the films of Ingmar Bergman, most famously as the knight who wages a deadly chess battle in "The Seventh Seal". Best known to North American audiences as Father Merrin in "The Exorcist", he has twice been nominated for Oscars-for Best Actor for "Pelle the Conqueror", & more recently as Best Supporting Actor for "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close". Also known to cult movie fans for playing Ming the Merciless in "Flash Gordon" & King Osric the Usurper in the original "Conan the Barbarian"(you can see his cut assassination scene on Youtube). One of the few, if not the only actor to play both Jesus Christ("The Greatest Story Ever Told") & the Devil(in the film adaptation of Stephen King's "Needful Things"), he continues to act occasionally, most recently in the latest Star Wars movie "The Force Awakens". Also director of one film-"Katinka".
