Films About History and Those That Aspire to Be Historical

'History is bunk' said Henry Ford allegedly, and unfortunately that might be an apt description of several films on this list.The great films on this list focus on great people or great events. I omitted King Arthur and Robin Hood as no one can definitely prove they existed outside their own legends.it is also impossible to include every film that is labelled 'based on a true story'. Certain historical eras like Tudor England,and Julio Claudian Rome, have had rather too many films made about them, so film makers eventually decided to poke fun at their cliches. Some of these films bear grandiose titles, and have run times of grandiose length. For these reasons, it seemed appropriate to include some films that are also intentionally funny about history
