Examples of Surrealism in Film - Page 5

Historically, surrealist cinema began as a modernist approach to film theory, criticism, and production with origins in Paris in the 1920s. Typically characterized by juxtapositions of seemingly unrelated actions and images, the rejection of dramatic psychology, and a frequent use of shocking imagery, surrealist techniques eventually broke into more mainstream cinema. Nowadays, even more "conventional" movies can contain elements of or be entirely categorized as "surrealist" while not necessarily possessing the same ideas of conscious revolution that the original surrealists aspired to.
