The essential Nintendo Entertainment System experience. Yeah, yeah, all three Super Mario Bros games; all three are familiar enough, yet still drastically different from one another, and are solely responsible for creating and perfecting the platform genre. There are a lot of omissions here, obviously, when you consider the sheer number of games released for the NES.
Every Mega Man game released on the NES deserves a spot on this list, but I feel that Mega Man 2 exemplifies the series. I argued with myself between Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3. Simon's Quest, the much maligned Castlevania game, is still my favorite of the NES releases of the series.
