Epics and Pseudo - Epics

Our maverick English Teacher looks at the epic, a form he has taught for the last 17 years. Here he has compiled a list of 37 epics and pseudo-epics that he has come across in his teaching; included are several "mock Epics", as well as some serious ( and not so serious) candidates for the American National epic. He has adhered to the traditional concept of the epic, which holds that it must be in verse; consequently, there is no "War and Peace", "Gone with the Wind", or "Lord of the Rings."
