If you've spent a significant amount of time on Goodreads, you may have noticed that a 3.7 out of 5 star average rating is often what makes or breaks a work's reputation. After years of more and more frequently ignoring the averages when it comes to my own rating decisions, I've amassed a sizable collection of works that I think are either far better or far worse than what a typical reader will give them out to be. The distinctions are drawn up as follows:
1-3: Absolute favorites with a less than 3.7
4-15: Great ones with a less than 3.7
16-100: Really good ones with a less than 3.7
101-171: Meh ones with more than a 3.7
172-End: Hated ones with more than a 3.7
Note that some of these works are right on the 3.7 border, and may or not fall into a certain category at any given moment of time.
