Classics That Disappointed

Off and on over the years, I've read books considered classic. From my list of those I've read, these disappointed me or outright sucked. Too long/wordy. Racist/sexist in ways that no amount of context could save. Some provoked a "meh" reaction or bewildered me - what is your point? A few did all those things at the same time. I wonder who decides what is considered 'classic and why. Interested to see people voting reactions.
Mostly pre-1950 but some wobbling re time-frame
