Here is a partly researched and partly subjective list of 160 classics of American letters. I've given poetry and drama equal weight with fiction, and also have included a small dose of non-fiction. I have tried to avoid anything with the words "The Complete Works Of" in the title, choosing instead to list individual stories and poems in most cases.
