Books That Should Earn You Extra Credit on "List Challenges"

If "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "Anna Karenina" are on the same "ListChallenges" list, they have equal value. That's not fair. You can finish "Hitchhiker's Guide" in three trips to the bathroom (even if you get enough fiber) whereas you'll need to take two weeks off work to get through "Anna" (one to read, one to recover). Difficulty is, of course, not always a function of length. "Finnegan's Wake" for example, is 100 pages shorter than "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell," but Susanna Clarke wasn't trying to invent a new language in the latter. I've read several of the following books, but some I know by reputation. And whatever your score on this list, feel free to double it.
