Birds Named for Their Voices

This is a list of North American birds whose names describe their calls or songs; some are onomatopoeic (spelled as they sound), while others use an adjective to compare the sound to something else. Note that the common names of many other birds (cuckoo, magpie, warbler) also describe their voices, but this list is rather arbitrarily limited to those birds for which the qualifying word imitates or describes the voice.
