Barbara Tuchman: History as Literature

Despite having only a B. A. from Radcliffe and having no speciality or area of expertise, Barbara Tuchman became one of the premier historians of the late 20th Century. Her interests were wide ranging, and her approach was narrative. Consequently, she was that rarest of creatures, - a serious historian who was also immensely readable and popular. A born explainer, she produced ten books during her career, two of which won Pulitzer Prizes. Five of them were huge bestsellers.
