Archbishops of Baltimore

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore was the first to be created in the United States. Its first bishop and later archbishop was John Carroll, cousin of Charles Carroll of Carrolltown, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. It was established as a diocese in 1789 and an archdiocese in 1808.
