This is the "reading" list for my 11/12 (16 - 18 year olds) World Lit class. The first few rows are books of poems, essays, and stories that I sample from throughout the year for writing exercises. Some books we read whole-class, some are read in book clubs, and the last unit students read choice manga or light novels, which I represented via some of the most popular series at my school right now. (Yes, the students are total nerds, so this is a very effective final unit to keep them focused at the end of the year!)
My goals are:
1. To give A SPECIFIC STUDENT at least 3 existential crisis.
2. To explore cultures where we have large immigrant populations in our school/city, because I teach at a very diverse school but there's a lot of xenophobia.
3. Science fiction!!
(Note: in "American Lit" I cover the whole of North America, because no one can stop me. So less Central America in WL.)
(Also note: Uneducated pairs with the movie "Rabbit-Proof Fence" and is a quick dip into Oceania.)
