It used to take months for Broadway plays to make it to Hollywood; now it takes years, and the translation process isn't always successful. Have movies become too dependent on CGI and other special effects to tell human-scale stories? Has theater become too idiosyncratic and intimate to translate into mass entertainment? Has anyone noticed that movies are becoming plays more often than plays are becoming movies? Would 'August: Osage County" have been a bigger hit if Violet was a vampire? Oh, the questions . . .
