A work that metaphor of character, place or event to represent real-world issues and occurrences. Although many famous books have been mistaken for allegory (Lord of the Rings, A Clockwork Orange), true allegorical literature has the majority of its elements all servicing the larger metaphor. This is why many authors dislike this form of storytelling, since character development, poetic language, and ambiguity must be de-emphasized (or even removed) if they don't fit the metaphor.
