Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998), Japanese master filmmaker of classics, The Seven Samurai, Red Beard, Drunken Angel, Ikiru. Famed for his thrilling, profound samurai movies, he was also notable for his socially conscious thrillers, contemporary dramas, and films depicting the struggles of post-war Japanese society.
His influence on film was and still is huge with scores of filmmakers such as Bergman, Leone and Iñárritu and films such as The Magnificent Seven, The Usual Suspects, and Reservoir Dogs showing their great debt.
