"The American Film Institute has picked the top 11 films and 10 outstanding television shows of 2014.
The films include American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Interstellar, Into the Woods, Nightcrawler, Selma, Unbroken and Whiplash.
The top TV programs of the year include The Americans, Fargo, Game of Thrones, How to Get Away With Murder, Jane the Virgin, The Knick, Mad Men, Orange Is the New Black, Silicon Valley and Transparent.
The cultural organization normally puts together a list of 10 movies and TV shows to highlight each year. But the vote announced Monday featured a tie among movies despite tie-breaking votes. So 11 films made the list for the first time.
"We celebrate these films and television programs as more than just milestones in a year of excellence," said Bob Gazzale, AFI president and CEO in a statement. "This is part of our cultural heritage.""- via USA Today
