A Compact Well Read Book List

These days it's quite impossible to be truly well-read but if we look at some core books we can at least make a list that if followed will permit a person to be said to be well read particularly since reading seems to be less and less of something that people do. To be well-read commonly seems to mean to have been exposed to a wide variety of ideas and books dealing with varying topics or subjects. This list should permit the common person who follows it to be more well-read than is now common at the very least and at worst at least exposes the common reader to a wider array of literature and ideas than they might have otherwise been exposed to previously. A person would likely need to read many hundreds of texts to be truly well read and that's just not doable for a lot of folks hence this compact version is 60 volumes which though still somewhat long is short enough to be tackled by an average person.
