52 Doorstopper Books for Long Fall Evenings - Page 2

Those of us who have spent a lifetime reading books will recognize this feeling: Sometimes, you get a little ambitious and you wonder—could I tackle a book that size?

Such is the theme of today's collection of doorstopper books for long fall evenings. How are we defining a doorstopper? 450 pages, minimum. The big ones.

To put this list together, we gathered together a sampling of long books from recent years; older but still relatively recent books of the long-ass, high-profile variety; and some old classics and hefty Victorian triple-deckers you are likely to recognize. Several of these titles may prompt that familiar interior monologue: "OK, this year, I'm finally going to read that one." (Dune! Middlemarch! Infinite Jest!)
