So what makes a monster movie? According to idm.com a "monster" is inhuman or a human transformed into a monster, but cannot be undead such as zombies, vampires, or mummies. The definition also excludes supernatural beings such as witches, demons, ghosts, fairies, leprechaun, Babadook, wendigo, genies and so on. Gods and demigods are also not monsters, nor are humans behaving badly such as slashers. However, animals can be "monsters" such as sharks, dinosaurs, big apes etc. Humans can create monsters such as robots, or humanoid beasts, and of course aliens are monsters. Monsters aren't always bad.
