20 of the Best Animated Series of All Time (+ 20 More Overlooked / Underrated Ones Worth Your Time)

It's time for another list telling you which animated shows you should be watching! Here's how this works: The odd-numbered shows are ones that are most likely to appear on a "best animated shows of all time" list, while the even-numbered shows are more overlooked or underrated shows that correspond to the odd-numbered ones; whether they share some of the same writers, have similar themes, or both. There are some slight exceptions for what is "mainstream" and what is "underrated". For instance, the "mainstream" shows Daria and The Venture Bros. fly under may people's radar; whilst "underrated" shows Steven Universe and FMA: Brotherhood have garnered critical acclaim and dedicated followings (the latter is HUGE in the anime community, but somewhat overlooked by the cartoon community, who are likely more familiar with the vastly inferior 2003 adaptation).
