To mark 50 years of Earth Day (22 April, 2020), we present this watchlist of 20 recent narrative and documentary feature films—and one unmissable doc series—from around the globe, that put Earth and its fragile ecosystems front and center.
Whether minuscule in scope or focused on the big picture, these films were all chosen for the following criteria: they had to be from the past decade and be rated highly by the Letterboxd community (all have a minimum 3.5 average rating).
The films also needed to contain some sense of optimism, of complex consideration. An idea that we're not completely cooked just yet. A celebration of the people taking action. A recognition that climate action and social justice go hand in hand. A reminder of the beauty here on Earth.
